The Alliance for Higher Education in Prison is a national network providing space for the higher education in prison community to convene and collaborate. Blue Marble created the organization’s current website, National Directory website, and many other publications and graphics.
One of many parts of our work for the Alliance was the design and development of the National Directory of Higher Education in Prison: a resource that provides the most comprehensive public database of program information that has existed in the United States to date.
The design, development, and launch of the higheredinprison.org website in March 2020 allowed for the organization to quickly adapt in response to the COVID-19 crisis and the same infrastructure continues to evolve and support the Alliance’s activities years later.
CHALLENGE
We were introduced to the Alliance for Higher Education (Alliance) in 2018 when the organization was in its initial stages after a yearslong stakeholder engagement process had identified the need for a national entity to support the emerging field of higher education in prison. We were initially engaged to advise the Executive Director in coordinating multiple agencies involved with the rollout of the public image for the Alliance.
INSIGHT
A messaging hierarchy was developed in partnership with the client and with our partner, Pitchfork Communications. Our initial work together evolved into the Alliance’s first brochure and communications plan which then informed the development of numerous additional media.
RESULTS
Blue Marble Creative has become a key strategic partner for the Alliance for over 4 years, ensuring that their communications are consistent and meaningful to their target audiences. We’ve worked closely with their growing team and have provided ongoing training and support to increase their internal capabilities.
Projects include:
The design and development of the higheredinprison.org website (shown above)
Design and development of the National Directory of Higher Education in Prison: a resource that provides the most comprehensive public database of program information that has existed in the United States to date (shown above)

FOCUS
“Christine and Blue Marble arrived at the perfect moment for the Alliance. The organization was in a launch phase and had multiple projects needing communications support and not only did Blue Marble have the skills we needed, but they were also deeply committed to our social justice mission and invested in dedicating the time needed to ensure that our branding and messaging was in alignment with our values."
